Henkel Denmark and Lexington Green Partnered to Make
Lexington Green Greener

LEXINGTON, KY (June 0, 2008) - Lexington Green is soon going to look even greener thanks to a comprehensive shoreline restoration project for Lexington Green’s lake just completed by landscape architects from Henkel Denmark of Lexington.

The project not only gives the lake a new, more attractive, naturalized look, but stabilizes the once-eroded banks and enhances the lake’s ecosystem. This was accomplished by integrating biodegradable coconut fiber logs and blankets, compost, and native plants into a very appealing and functional design.

Landscape Architect Lucian Dearborn of Henkel Denmark commented on the challenge: “Years of duck and goose traffic, along with the wave action from the fountain, had created unsightly erosion along the banks of the lake's water detention basin”

He went on to say, “ An important part of the solution was the native plants we used to refurbish the shoreline, as they served double duty.  Not only did they improve the lake’s appearance and physically stabilize the erosion, but the materials allow the lake’s eco-system to self-sustain the banks from future erosion.  We expect this project to be a beautiful addition to Lexington Green and a long term solution to the problem for decades to come”

“Our goal is always to make the Lexington Green experience as positive as possible,” said Mall Manager Jennifer James, “and the improvements to the lake made for us by Henkel Denmark certainly contribute to that. Together, we’ve created something both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound, qualities very important to Lexingtonians. I’m sure our customers will come to appreciate it just as much as our ducks and geese.”
